Ambassador Gao Yanping Opens the "Nanjing Day" in Celebration of the 20-Year Diplomatic Ties between China and Israel

On the afternoon of May 21st, 2012, Ambassador Gao Yanping launched the "Nanjing Day" in celebration of 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Israel at Tel Aviv University with Mr. Yang Weize, Member of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Standing Committee and Party Secretary of the CPC Nanjing municipal committee, Prof. Joseph Klafter, President of TAU (Tel Aviv University) and Mr. Moshik Lipetz, Chairman of the Sub-Committee for Asia Affairs of ULAI (Union of Local Authorities in Israel) and Mayor of Savyon Local Council. More than 200 people were present including Counselor Dai Yuming and senor diplomats from the Chinese Embassy, delegates of the Nanjing Delegation, and Israeli officials, entrepreneurs and TAU students, etc. The "Nanjing Day" was sponsored and organized jointly by the Chinese Embassy in Israel, Nanjing Municipal Government and TAU.

Ambassador Gao spoke highly of the cooperation between Nanjing and Israel, and emphasized that since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, the Bilateral relationship had made strides in various fields including politics, economy and trade, science and technology, agriculture, education, health, culture, etc.  She stressed that the complementary relationship and pragmatic cooperation between the two countries had brought win-win results to both peoples. She said the good cooperation between Nanjing and Israel was an important part of the overall relationship, and the "Nanjing Day" marked not only a milestone of the cooperation between Nanjing and Israel, but one of the highlights in the series of events in celebration of the 20-year diplomatic relations between the two countries.  She wished the "Nanjing Day" a great success, and the exchanges and cooperation between the two countries flourishing.

Party Secretary Yang Weize recalled the history and friendship between the two nations and briefed the audience on Nanjing's history, culture, economic development, and cooperation with Israel. He said that the friendly exchanges and cooperation between Nanjing and Israel benefited each other, and he was looking forward to further cooperation in economy, trade, science and technology, education and culture, etc.

President Joseph Klafter of TAU looked back on the exchanges and cooperation between TAU and the Chinese universities, and hoped to have more cooperation in the field of education and culture in the future. Chairman Moshik Lipetz of the Sub-Committee for Asia Affairs of ULAI recalled his visits to China, praised the exchanges and cooperation between municipalities and localities of the two countries, and said it was conducive to the overall relationship. 

Signing ceremony 

Ambassador Gao Yanping, Party Secretary Yang Weize, President Joseph Klafter of TAU and Chairman Moshik Lipetz of the Sub-Committee for Asia Affairs of ULAI witnessed the signing ceremony of several cooperative agreements between Nanjing officials and their counterparts in Israel 

"The Beauty of Nanjing" picture exhibition and paper-cutting performance 

Ambassador Gao Yanping, Party Secretary Yang Weize, President Joseph Klafter of TAU and Chairman Moshik Lipetz of the Sub-Committee for Asia Affairs of ULAI also held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for "The Beauty of Nanjing" picture exhibition, which showed the history, culture, natural environment, economic and social development in Nanjing. Paper-cutting and other crafts with local characteristics attracted many Israelis there.  

Before the opening ceremony of "Nanjing Day", Party Secretary Yang Weize and President Joseph Klafter of TAU launched the training program on innovation and start-up for Nanjing senior officials. Nanjing and Israeli relevant parties also held a seminar on cultural heritage protection.

In the evening, "the Night of Nanjing" Gala performance brought the "Nanjing Day" to its climax. In the theater full of people, the performance was greeted by the audience with rounds of deafening applause from the very beginning to the end.
