Vice President Xi Jinping Meets with President of the Cambodian National Assembly

On December 6, 2011, Vice President Xi Jinping met with Heng Samrin, president of the Cambodian National Assembly at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi said China and Cambodia are friendly neighbors. He hailed the traditional friendship and expanding cooperation between the two states in politics, economic issues, culture and education, which he said has brought tangible benefits to both peoples. China attaches importance to the relationship with Cambodia, cherishes the traditional friendship with Cambodia and will work with Cambodia to deepen substantial cooperation, strive for common prosperity and promote the bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, he said.

"The close contact and cooperation between China and Cambodia at last month's East Asian leaders' meetings has contributed to the success of the meetings," Xi said. He said China will enhance consultation and coordination with Cambodia on regional and international affairs regarding the United Nations, East Asian cooperation and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and contribute to regional and world peace, stability and prosperity.

Heng Samrin said Cambodia is proud of having a good friend and good brother like China. He appreciated China's long-term support and assistance to his country, saying Cambodia will learn from China's experience in economic development and improving people's livelihoods. Cambodia will also enhance cooperation with China in investment, tourism, counter-terrorism and in combating cross-border crime, he said, adding that the Cambodian National Assembly will continue playing a positive role and contribute to the growth of bilateral friendship.
