Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun Holds Talks with Director General of Israeli Foreign Ministry
2007/06/25

On June 25, 2007, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun held talks with visiting Director General of the Israeli Foreign Ministry Aharon Abramovitch.

Zhai said since the two countries forged diplomatic ties 15 years ago, bilateral relations have been developing continuously. China is ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Israel on politics, economy, science and technology and culture, he added.

Abramovitch expressed satisfaction over the development of bilateral ties since the two countries forged diplomatic relations, pledging to work with the Chinese side to push the mutually beneficial cooperation to a new level. Abramovitch also reaffirmed his country's adherence to the one-China policy.

Both sides also exchanged views on the current situation in Middle East. Abramovitch briefed about Israel's views on the regional situation. Zhai emphasized that negotiations are the only means to resolve the Israel-Palestine dispute. China supports the two-state vision of an independent Palestinian state living in peace and security alongside Israel and hopes both sides will maintain contacts and dialogue to seek a proper solution to the issue, said Zhai. China will continue its active role in pushing for the Middle East peace process, he added.
