Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Meets with Director General of Israeli Foreign Ministry
2007/06/26

On June 26, 2007, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse with visiting Director General of the Israeli Foreign Ministry Aharon Abramovitch, exchanging views on bilateral ties and the situation in the Middle East.

Abramovitch conveyed the cordial greetings from Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel Tzipi Livni, saying that Israel attaches importance to ties with China and is ready to take the opportunity of the 15th anniversary of diplomatic ties to strengthen bilateral friendly cooperation in all areas.

Yang made positive comments on the progress of bilateral ties since the establishment of diplomatic relations, indicating that China is ready to strengthen political consultations, trade cooperation and humanistic exchanges with Israel. He also asked Abramovitch to convey his best wishes to Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel Tzipi Livni.

Yang pointed out that China is deeply concerned about the current situation in the Middle East, appealing all Palestinian factions to keep restraint and hold consultations and dialogue to ease the tension as soon as possible. China hopes that the Israeli and Palestinian sides will give full play to wisdom, seek favorable interaction and restart peace talks so as to realize the "two-state" vision of an independent Palestinian state living in peace and security alongside Israel.

Abramovitch said Israel gives priority to China's important role in the Middle East issue and stands ready to strengthen contacts with China.
