Message at the 71st anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China by Mr. Dai Yuming

On October 1st, 2020, Mr. Dai Yuming, Charge d'Affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Israel releases his video message on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The full text is as following:

Dear Israeli Friends and Chinese compatriots,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Shalom. Today marks the 71st anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. It is a jubilant occasion for the Embassy staff and all the Chinese working and living in Israel. It is also an opportunity to give our heartfelt thanks to all the friends who have graciously supported the development of friendly relations between China and Israel.

The October 1st of this year coincides with the traditional Chinese festival, the Mid-Autumn Day, as well as the Eve of Sukkot of the Jewish people. At this joyous moment of celebration and family reunion, I want to extend our best festive greetings:

Chag Sameach!

In the 71 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Chinese people have blazed out a development path that suits their national conditions and opened a new chapter in China's history. It is a period of time when China rises from poverty and backwardness, and makes contributions to world peace and development.

Confronting the sudden attack of COVID-19, the whole Chinese nation was mobilized to save lives. With extraordinary efforts and sacrifices, China has made strategic achievements in fighting the virus while balancing social and economic growth. In the second quarter, China's economy grew by 3.2 percent from a year earlier, becoming the only major economy with positive growth since the pandemic. The OECD has revised its forecast of China's annual growth rate to 1.8%, making China the only G20 country expected to see positive economic output in 2020.

While fighting its own battle against COVID-19, China has been bearing in mind the common interest of mankind and staying committed to a community of shared future. Despite the enormous pressure of disease control within the country, China resolutely launched the most intensive and wide-ranging emergency humanitarian assistance since the founding of the People's Republic.

China has dispatched 34 medical teams to 32 countries, extended 283 tranches of aid to 150 countries and 4 international organizations, and exported or provided medical supplies to over 200 countries and regions.

At the moment, four COVID-19 vaccines developed by China are in Phase III clinical trials. When they are ready, these vaccines will be made a global public good and be provided to other developing countries on a priority basis.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

During the pandemic, the Chinese and the Israelis have been working together to overcome one challenge after another, demonstrating the power of unity and cooperation. At the critical moment of China's fight against the epidemic, President Reuven Rivlin, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israelis from all walks of life extended their sympathy and support to China. We're deeply moved and will never forget it.

China firmly stands with Israel in this fight. We have held sessions of video conference between Chinese and Israeli experts and will continue to do so. We are facilitating Israel's procurement and transportation of medical supplies in and from China. Chinese cities, businesses, universities and ordinary people are expressing their sympathies and donating PPEs (Personal Protective Equipment) to Israel. Our cooperation on medicines and testing technologies are also advancing with progress. Moreover, Chinese businesses in Israel have been steadily resuming their operations, and Chinese construction workers continued their work during the pandemic, contributing to Israel's social and economic growth.

Crises will never stop China and Israel to pursue greater cooperation. The governments and peoples of the two countries have every will and wisdom to prevail over the disease and reinvigorate the growth.

In the first half of 2020, the bilateral trade between China and Israel topped over 6.3 billion US dollars, registering an increase of 20%. Among which, Israel's export to China increased by 51% to 2.4 billion US dollars. Not long ago, the negotiating teams of our two countries concluded the latest round of FTA consultations, and both sides are positive on reaching the agreement at an earlier date. By the end of this year, the preparation meeting for the 5th Joint Committee on Innovation Cooperation will be convened to formulate the blueprint of our future collaboration.

We trust that China and Israel will get over this difficult period for mankind and embrace a better tomorrow.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

President Xi Jinping emphasized at the 75th session of the UN General Assembly that China is the largest developing country in the world, a country that is committed to peaceful, open, cooperative and common development. We will never seek hegemony, expansion, or sphere of influence. We have no intention to fight either a Cold War or a hot war with any country. We will continue to narrow differences and resolve disputes with others through dialogue and negotiation. We do not seek to develop only ourselves or engage in a zero-sum game. We will not pursue development behind closed doors. Rather, we aim to foster, over time, a new development paradigm with domestic circulation as the mainstay and domestic and international circulations reinforcing each other. This will create more space for China's economic development and add impetus to global economic recovery and growth.

China will not be intimidated by the protectionism or unilateralism. We will continue to open our door wider to the world and share our growth dividends with Israel and the international community. China will continue to work as a builder of global peace, a contributor to global development and a defender of international order.

COVID-19 may have prevented us from meeting face to face, but it cannot affect our confidence and action as we pursue shared progress and mutually beneficial cooperation. Let's work together for the final victory of the battle against the disease and jointly usher in a better tomorrow of China, Israel and the world.

Thank you!
