In Celebration of the 93rd Anniversary of The Founding of The People's Liberation Army of China
2020/07/29

August 1st  this year marks the 93rd anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army of China. Over the past 93 years, China's military, which had experienced numerous battles and endured countless hardships, has shone its history with glorious victories and splendid achievements. It has committed itself to the liberation and wellbeing of the Chinese people, and to the independence and rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

The Chinese nation has always advocated peace and opposed militarism. Since modern times, the Chinese people have suffered much from aggressions and wars, thereby cherishing more the value of peace. Since its founding more than 70 years ago, the People's Republic of China has never started any war or provoked any conflict. The PLA has never taken by force an inch of land from any other country. It is not by engaging in military expansion or colonial plunder that China has grown from a poor and weak country to the world's second largest economy today. Though a country may become strong, bellicosity will lead to its ruin. China will unswervingly pursue a national defense policy that is defensive in nature. The development of China's national defense aims to meet its rightful security needs. China will never follow the beaten track of previous powers seeking hegemony. No matter how it might develop, China will never seek hegemony, expansion or spheres of influence.

The PLA is a staunch force for world peace, stability and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. Committed to the principle of win-win cooperation, the PLA will fulfill their international responsibilities and obligations, and provide more public security goods to the international community to the best of their capacity. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the PLA's participation in the UN peacekeeping operations (UNPKO). Over the past 30 years, from the first batch of military observers to the first medical detachment, and to the first helicopter unit, China has participated in 25 UN peacekeeping missions and has contributed more than 40,000 peacekeepers. China has become a major contributor to the UNPKO in terms of both troops and budget. Also over the 30 years, a number of peacekeepers from China, fearless of dangers and difficulties, went to participate UNPKO and bring peace and hope to the people in war-torn regions, among whom 15 Chinese military personnel have sacrificed their lives. Since December 2008, China has dispatched 35 convoys of naval ships to carry out regular vessel escort operations in the Gulf of Aden and the waters off the coast of Somalia. In total, escort has been provided to nearly 7,000 ships in more than 1,300 operations, half of which were non-Chinese commercial ships. Additionally, China's armed forces take an active part in international efforts for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions outside China's borders, provide relief materials and medical aid, and strengthen international exchanges in this respect. It fully demonstrates that the PLA is committed to honoring its international responsibilities as the armed forces of a power.

After the COVID-19 epidemic was reported in Hubei province in January, the PLA has served the people wholeheartedly as per its founding principles. From January 24th rushing to emergency operations on the eve of Chinese lunar new year to April 16th beginning to withdraw, the military medics ran three hospitals for Wuhan for more than 80 days, admitting 7,198 patients, making a significant contribution to securing strategic achievements to defend Hubei Province and Wuhan. While COVID-19 is wreaking havoc throughout the world, China's military has been actively cooperating with defense establishment and armed forces from a variety of countries. In the face of the pandemic, the international community should make concerted efforts and cooperate well, which is the key to the final success. With profound sincerity and efforts, the PLA is willing to work together with partners across the world to tide over the current difficulties, and win the global fight against COVID-19 by joining hands in a spirit of solidarity. We are willing to further explore the effective mode of communication and cooperation with our Israeli partners during the pandemic. We believe that through our joint efforts, the development of the China-Israel military contacts will gain a healthy momentum, energizing our "Innovative Comprehensive Partnership"to bear new fruits.

COVID-19 is currently wreaking havoc throughout the world and posing a severe threat to global public health security. In the face of this unprecedented crisis, international cooperation isthe best choice for the global fight against the epidemic. Recently, Chinese and French artists has written an anti-epidemicsong "Shared Destiny". The song was composed by Zhao Lin with lyrics by Laurent Bàn and Chen Daobin. It was performedby Tan Weiwei, Zhang Yingxi, Ayunga, Ma Jia, Laurent Bàn, Juliette Behar and Zhao Jiajingyun.
