Wang Yi Held the Ceremony to Honor Late Ambassador Du Wei

In the morning of May 21, 2020, the late Ambassador Du Wei was returned to the motherland. State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Ambassador Du's family and his colleagues received him with a brief, solemn ceremony at the Beijing Capital International Airport.

State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed his deep sorrow at the unfortunate passing of Ambassador Du during his posting in Israel and expressed sincere condolences to Ambassador Du's family. Wang Yi said that Du Wei is a good colleague and comrade in arms. Entrusted by the People's Republic, he worked relentlessly till the last moment of his life and devoted everything to China's diplomatic cause. Du Wei will be remembered by all of us.

 

Earlier, in the morning of May 20, the Israeli government held a farewell ceremony in honor of Ambassador Du at the Ben Gurion International Airport. Senior officials from the President's Office, Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives from diplomatic corps in Israel as well as Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy Dai Yuming and Embassy staff attended the ceremony.

 

Ambassador Du Wei was born in October 1962. He served as Chinese Ambassador to Ukraine from 2016 to 2019 and assumed his post as Chinese Ambassador to Israel in February 2020.
