Remarks by H.E. Ambassador Zhan Yongxin at the Reception upon his Arrival and Assumption of Office

Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear Friends,

Shalom! Erev Tov! Good Evening!

First of all, please allow me on behalf of Chinese Embassy in the State of Israel, to start by extending my warmest welcome and heartfelt thanks to all distinguished guests presenting tonight, for your cooperation and continuous support given to China-Israel relations and the work of our Embassy. In 8 days, we are going to welcome the Chinese New Year, the Spring Festival. On this occasion of ringing out the old year and in the new, I would also like to extend my sincere blessings and season’s greetings to you all, wishing you great auspiciousness and success in the upcoming Year of Goat!

Just less than 2 weeks ago, I arrived and stepped on this magnificent land of Israel, the land flowing with milk and honey. I am too impatient to wait, to see this magical country and meet with its wonderful people. People say that Israel is the Promised Land, but I say, more importantly, Israel is a Promising Land. Merely days of my stay here in Tel Aviv, I have already experienced the beauty of this country, the passion of its people, and the vigorousness of its economy. This is destined to be the most promising and successful land in my diplomatic career.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear Friends,

I would like to share with you some of my observations regarding the current situation of the Chinese economic and social development, as well as my expectations for the China-Israel relationship.

The past year of 2014 marks a new beginning of China's endeavor to comprehensively deepen reform. The Chinese government, under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, has laid out a series of new measures of governance, and launched historical and strategic arrangements of economic development and social reforms. The Fourth Plenum of the 18th CPC Central Committee projected an important roadmap to promote the rule of law. The Chinese people are walking on the path of a “Two Centenary Goals” toward a moderately prosperous society in all respects, and are endeavoring to realize the “Chinese Dream” of achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation.

Last year, despite a still sluggish global economy, China has maintained a proper economic growth with a more stable performance. By adopting precise measures and exercising targeted regulation, we have seen a 7.4% increase of GDP. By rate, it is one of the fastest among major global economies. By volume, it equals to an overall yearly economic aggregate in China in the 1990s. This is really a significant achievement. China now accounts for 30% of the world economic growth and over 50% in the continent of Asia. We are confident, that in our joint efforts by all the Chinese people, and with the support of friends from all over the world, the Chinese Dream will come true and benefit the world, including our Israeli friends.

This year of 2015 will be a year of landmark significance for China. We will continue to advance the deepening of reform and opening up. The Chinese economy has entered a state of new normal. The gear of growth is shifting from high speed to medium-to-high speed, and development needs to move from low-to-medium level to medium-to-high level. We will encourage mass entrepreneurship and innovation, to foster a new engine of growth. In terms of opening up, we will accelerate the building of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, and promote the construction of FTA zones. We have concluded FTA negotiations with 20 economies, and we have undergoing talks with 23 countries.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear Friends,

I am the 7th Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the State of Israel. If I am right, the number “seven” is one of the most important and sacred digit in the Jewish culture, we all know that there’re seven days a week, and I have specially noticed that there’re seven candlesticks in your “menorah”(七烛台), your national emblem. This is a good sign for me. I believe, I will definitely round up all the important achievements my predecessors have contributed, and lead China-Israel relations into a new paragraph.

I came to Israel with the mission and expectation to promoting an even better relationship, partnership, and cooperation between our two countries and two nations in multi-dimensional prospects and all-around levels. The Chinese people and the Jewish people both possess splendid culture and have long history of friendship. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. We revitalized our two nations from the ashes of the 2nd World War, share feelings and sorrows of the loss and hurt of that past tragedy. I believe the special attachment our two peoples have, will help us to embrace a better and brighter future together.

We now live in an era of globalization. China needs the world. China also needs Israel. The Chinese people care greatly about the country’s future and the future of the world. China is ready to continue to be a reliable, trustworthy, and responsible partner and friend to Israel, to prosper and develop together with the Israeli people. China is now Israel's largest trade partner in Asia and third largest partner in the world, our trade volume increases from merely 50 million US dollars in 1992, when we established our diplomatic ties, to over 10 billion last year.

I am confident, and resolute, to witness and contribute to an even greater progress of China-Israel relations in my tenure as the new Ambassador. I am looking forward to increasing and strengthening our exchanges and cooperation in various fields, to further promoting our bilateral relations into a more steady, more concrete and more deepening dimensions. It is time for us to interpret planning into action and transform expectation into reality.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear Friends,

I wish, you will continue to lending your support to the Chinese Embassy and myself, contributing your efforts to promote friendship and cooperation between China and Israel. Let me conclude by wishing you a pleasant evening. Wish you and your family a good health and success in the Chinese New Year. Wish the China-Israel relations bear even more fruits and progress in the future.

Thank you! Toda Raba Shebatem!
