Israeli Agency and Media Outlets Made Public Clarifications on China-related Rumors
2022-04-13 20:02

On April 12th, the spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in Israel released a solemn statement regarding some local media outlets that spread China-related rumors. As the statement pointed out, certain Israeli media spread rumors that, among the Passover holiday gifts the Embassy sent to the Israeli side following diplomatic customary practices, a thermal mug in the gifts “may” contain “a suspicious device”. However, the so-called “suspicious device” is in fact a getter, which could be easily found in the same kind of thermal mugs. The statement emphasized that the baseless rumors have a severe impact as they aim to drive a wedge between China and Israel, tarnish China’s image and seriously mislead the public. In the statement, the Embassy asked the relevant media outlets to stop helping spread rumors, and take real actions to eliminate the negative impacts that are already caused.

Later on that day, a relevant Israeli agency made public clarifications through the media with a conclusion that the Passover gifts the Embassy sent contain nothing problematic. As of 8:00 a.m. on April 13th local time, mainstream media outlets, including The Jerusalem Post, Haaretz, The Times of Israel, Israel Hayom, Ynet, Maariv, i24NEWS and The Globes, all published the above-mentioned statement and the Israeli agency’s clarifications on the China-related rumors.
